Who am I?

My name is Jalen Scott Wong and I’ve discovered that drawing has always come naturally to me. I have been drawing for most of my life and have found myself drawn to the nostalgia of the media that I had grown up with. I consider myself a multimedia artist who mainly focuses on illustration based artworks, and I want to emphasize a loose and chiseled look that reflects the process of creating. I also focus on expanding my artistic lens by blending the 2D world with the 3D with figures I collect and customize, connecting both the feeling of the three dimensional form and the lines of a two-dimensional drawing. While most of my works depict existing characters and media that I am nostalgic and inspired by, I am hoping to tell a story to those who may not be familiar with them. I have been drawing in digital for quite some time but I always leave room for improvement. I want to create art that I, myself in the past, would have looked at when wanting to create something that excites me.

What inspires me?

I have been fortunate enough to have friends and family who are always showing me new things to be interested in. I remember my father showing me the original 1984 Transformers cartoon when I was very young and instantly became obsessed. Growing up with this evergreen interest in mecha/transformers, I always felt intrigued by that power fantasy of something beyond our real world fighting for good. This became more present as I was introduced to video games and I can vividly remember playing through all Halo campaigns with my father. What I hope to achieve with my pieces that are inspired by all these various media sources, is to convey the feeling of nostalgia and awe that I feel for these properties and hope to share it with you.
